[DIY] Re: Mortise Lock?

A mortise lock usually has a spring bolt AND a dead bolt and is rekeyable through thru the screw-in cylinder.  There is a small screw in the mortise lock on the edge of the door that locks the key cylinder in place to prevent turning/ removal.  Remove this screw, and unscrew the cylinder.  Cylinder can be rekeyed, or repaired/ replaced with a different keyway (brand/ style).

The cylinder can then be carried to a locksmith for repair/ rekeying, or replacement.

Operation of the mortise lock is that turning the key one direction operates the spring bolt, and turning the other operates the dead bolt.  If the dead bolt is locked, turn the key to unlock the deadbolt and continuing to turn engages the spring bolt release.
