Re: [DIY] Deadbolt Lock Fix or Replace?

I was just thinking  that if the lock is Schlage brand, a locksmith can do all kinds of things with them. I just remember someone getting Schlage locks rekeyed years ago. Not all locks can be modified much or have interchangeable parts.

Just a thought that passed by me as I read these posts.

The deadbolt on my door uses a key on the outside and a knob to turn on the inside. I only use this door once a day to get my mail. We use the other doors for entry otherwise so it's not too urgent of a job.

When I turn the knob to open it recently the knob turns a full half turn instead of only the usual quarter turn. So if the turner is vertical it used to be horizontal when opened. Now it goes all the way to vertical upon unlocking or locking. I also have a little locking turn thing on the doorknob that I now use too. Plus the storm door is kept locked. Can you tell my husband is retired police? We love our security!

Is there a way to take out the deadbolt and perhaps just tighten something inside or does it need replacing?
