I understand it may be difficult to run a new wire down the wall for a switch, but it would be good to have a switch for it somewhere even if it is not located in the same room or used for normal operation. You never know when something can happen and you need to "kill" the power to it without turning off other things on the circuit. As mentioned, my dog has destroyed lots of remotes.
As far as normal operation, it will work fine with only the remote.
