[DIY] Re: Tub leaking

1) Were the stem & seat new, or you just installed new washers?; (re: right parts?)

2) if new, were they an exact match for the old ones?;
3) If washers only replaced, is the washer slightly larger diameter (maybe overtightened/ swollen?) so that it hangs on threads/ body BEFORE hitting the seat to seal the water?
4) (when screwed in), does the distance from the tip of the stem to the wall match the other stem distance, or is it farther from the wall, (indicating it is not seating);
5) (Hopefully) you did not over-tighten the seat and strip/ or crack the body of the faucet  (My SIL did that to his faucet on his first DIY plumbing job and had to replace faucet.
6) TIP: Properly installed tubs will have the plumbing against a CLOSET WALL (NOT the outside wall), so worst case is removing some sheetrock or plaster from a closet wall.

p.s. My son once rented in a basement (of an apparent DIY) plumbing against outside basement wall, and YES, they had to rip out the tile to repair a leak, (thousands $$) which turned out to be simple shower pipe threads that (could have) been fixed without tile removal, (esp.if they had spent $50 for the new wall probe camera)...but worse, did not take the opportunity to install new, reversed, correct tub and installed new tile w/ problem remaining.
:-( :-(
