[DIY] Flooring

(1) I'm so glad you're here ...

Now I need to talk about flooring. You have helped me GREATLY with the paint job. Let's talk about flooring. Please.

I went into the carpet store yesterday. First of all, the friend wants to put down laminate. But I really want tile. I cannot have tile because it will cost too much to do this floor. Materials and installation will run me about $8,000. Not willing or prepared to spend that much money. So ... I decided to step down to laminate or cheap carpet (Berber). As I lay in my easy chair this morning, I looked at the furniture in my room and thought: I really don't want carpet, no matter how you slice it, because I cannot move the furniture to clean WHEN I clean. But more importabntly than cleaning is if something drops behind a dresser, etc. I have pushing and shoving furniture. So I thought about laminate, once again. Not my top choice. In fact, for looks it's my last choice. But of course this is personal.

So I'm thinking about laminate. Let me explain to you the prices I've received so far. Not exact but approximate. The laminate will cost about $3500 installed. The carpet (Berber, over which the salesman said a vacuum would run fairly easily) would run about $2500 installed. He told me that if I lefyt the condo for an extended period of time that with laminate I would have to have the a/c running all the time, since it expands or something like that. And, of course, I'm worried about leaks. But there's a company here that offers laminate installed at $1.99, materials and installation included. I can only imagine what kind of laminate it is, but I'm willing to play with the thought for a while. I am going to the store and check out what the salesman says about the quality of the laminate. But of course, leaks and spills do concern me. (I'm trying not to use the word 'worry.')

There's more, but I'll talk about that later on. (I used to sell pianos, a certain brand, and what I found is that you always must tell the GOOD qualities of the make, leave out everything bad, lol. Then, as I spoke to tuners, many of them were truly experts on the various brands, and knew the good and bad points of each maker, of course the salesperson would never tell you.)
