Re: [DIY] Pop Corn

I kind of figured, having played with popcorn in the past. So this kind of convinces me not to paint over the popcorn. The sad part is that the painter/friend did not explain all of this to me when I was deciding. I'm going to ask him about it. Obviously removing the popcorn ceiling will take a while and frankly, I might just go with dusting it right now and leave that job for the future.

One good thing about my circa 1968 house, no popcorn ceilings! I have the swirled texture ceilings, same as what is on the walls. Much preferable to the popcorn. Of course there is the 70s addition with the "stalactite" ceiling texture. No choice but to spray that I guess.

Popcorn ceilings are fairly easily removed using water and a wide putty knife, however once they have been painted over it is an entirely different story.  If you decide to paint over one of these relics from the past, make sure you wish to keep it for the duration.  It is also best to paint using a spray gun as the popcorn comes off and makes a real mess on brushes and rollers, with globs that are often redeposited in random but conspicuous locations about the ceiling.

Hi Jan. So when you paint over a popcorn ceiling, it looks like painted popcorn?
