You will need to trace the exhaust route, it is possible that it does not
connect to any roof vent, it may be vented in the attic, not allowed, but it
happens.

have a builder grade fan (which in and of itself may be the problem) that
did not seem to pull the smoke out when self cleaning the oven yesterday. i
went outside in the late PM early twilight and couldn't see any smoke from
the stack. there was plenty in the house, no breeze, had windows open to
allow air flow. no name unit, single speed, single bulb unit. not a happy
camper, needless to say!
