Re: [DIY] Barrier advice needed/ Plumbing

Hi All.

Thanks for your advice. I am realizing that the apartment is over a garage. This is a big building with 130 units. My apartment is over the garage. What I understood was that there was 4 feet of cement between my apartment and the garage.

Im starting to wonder if this is car exhaust seeping in. My closet floors are not covered, it is just bare cement.

I do not smell this smell anywhere else in the home (just 2 closets).

Does anyone know of a sealant I can use on the cement itself, like a vapor barrier? or is there something else, like a sheet or something.

SHort of having to sell the apartment, im looking for a solution.

thanks so much.

Frank

(Sorry, just realized YOU are the owner/ landlord), and reading your other posts,

1) fear that you may have a water or sewer leak/ mold under the flooring and/or slab that the vinyl/ sheet floor covering is partially hiding/ help hide.
2) May I suggest a infrared thermometer gun and moisture meter, set up grid MAP for house, w/ plumbing location, and start reading temps and if anything (AREA) lower temp, try moisture readings.
3)  If any area suspicious, consult an experienced plumber.
OPTIONS might include: 3a) breaking or drilling slab at wet area to verify water/ mud/ leak ;
3b) SEWER CAMERA to check for sewer problems/ leaks/ repair

Hope this helps:  The map/ grid/ testing you can do yourself for $75 worth of tools w/ pencil and paper

Many times, closets backup to the plumbing in a bath, to provide plumbing access without busting out tile. Is this your case? If so, you may need landlord to investigate plumbing issues, leaks, vent/ methane?
