Re: [DIY] Primer Needed?

My experience with Sherwin Williams is that they are knowledgeable in their field. Did you ask them?

Stain is not paint, so if you are staining them, I don't think you are supposed to prime.

If you were painting them, I would prime, even though there are paints that are primer-and-paint. Which I don't trust, but that's a personal feeling.

Subject: [DIY] Primer Needed?

I am getting some new T-111 boards up on the side of my house to replace some that have rot on them as well as some treated wood to go on the corners.  My question is, do these need to be primed before painting them to match the house?

Same question on rails that have now been replaced.  Just treated wood rails that one buys at the big box stores.

In all cases I am painting with "Woodscapes" exterior house stain from Sherwin Williams.
