Re: [DIY] Door Scratches

Have you looked at adding metal trim panels? I know someone makes a trim piece to keep someone from jimmying the lock to break in, maybe they make one that will protect your affected surface.

We have an inside  porch entry door that goes into our house that has a door knob that is the lever style. The outside porch door also has a lever style knob.

Our 6 month old red heeler pup has figured out that if he stands on his hind legs he can open the doors by hitting the lever with a front paw and come in the house.

The problem  I am having with this is that the inside door is a pine door from Menards that we stained and varnished. My pup doesnt have very long toe nails because I keep them short, however he has scratched  the wood  and I dont want the door ruined.

I really dont want to go back to the round knobs because the lever makes it nice when I am carrying in bags of groceries.

Any suggestions? Is there something I can cover the wood with to protect it? Any thoughts on how to train him  not to open the  doors?
