Re: [DIY] DIY gardeners ?

I think the first cold spell might be on its way. Its passing over Seattle, WA since yesterday.  The way storm systems snake across the country it may not hit your area but there is one coming that direction.
Its been warm here in California too since Christmas. Before that it was wet and cold for a couple of months.
This is a doppler radar map of the whole country. You can see the direction its heading. The bottom of it is supposed to get this area a little wet this weekend, I think its this same storm. This area has been getting a lot of storm systems coming up from Mexico, almost like summertime but its cold. Those southern systems seem to push the northern systems away from this area.

With almost record heat so far in January and a warm December, my flowers have decided it's spring - again.  The herbs will be no problem, they'll just come back.  The daffodils and iris are up about 3" but I can always cover them if we get a cold spell.  Since the groundcovers never completely died, they are greening up nicely.  It's the roses I'm worried about.  We usually prune in January but it's supposed to be close to 70 this week and I'm not sure what to do since it's never gotten cold for the ground to freeze.  The Knockout Roses already have new green leaves.  We had 1" of snow last week, our first this winter and we usually have 17" by now.

I'm not sure we should do anything at this point - just let it go and see what happens?  I cleaned up the garden area last week and many plants are greening up.
