Also, old-style Freon is getting prohibitively expensive to replace. A new unit will use the newer coolant.

Hi Dale, Carol;
On the bright side, the new ones are not that expensive,
and can be so energy efficient that the energy savings can
pay for them, in just a few years. Be sure to not just buy
Energy Star, but a very efficient one. Use Energy Star as
your bare minimum for efficiency. They usually do not
cost any more than the energy wasteful ones.
