If it is not to demeaning to the deck architecture I would replace it with a nice doug fir 6x8 post ..I have glued and bolted 2x6's to make a larger post and it looks ugly!!! IMHO, a 6x8 is better for integrity and if it looks odd hang plants from it...after 5 years my homemade 6x6 looks awful with the seams --so I bit the bullet and bought a 6x8..longer bolts and looks great...it is an end post so it is ok with the architecture.. Just thought I'd "post" this...
