Re: [DIY] broken radio

I encountered a similar problem but it was for a stock radio Ford installs.
I took the radio apart around the volume knob and found the solder contacts had broken to the volume component. That was also how the volume control mounted to the radio.  I had to resolder the volume control and fiddle with it some and it finally worked again. Its been a bit over a year and it still works. I guess it broke from some pretty rough drivers, its a delivery van. Its a common problem on Ford's stock radios.
Not saying its the same problem. Doesn't sound like a stock Ford radio. But it sounds like the problem is around the volume knob in a similar fashion.
Sometimes old radios just die and much of the time there's not much you can do to fix them.
Your best option if you can get the money for it is to buy a radio with an USB socket. USB is the way to go, using an USB thumb drive. You can create a week or more's worth of music you can download free off of YouTube and change it any time you want. Takes learning some computer skills for setting up the music but its not impossible.

I have a Auto cassette radio.  It is Pioneer KEH-35  The paper with the rest of the numbers is torn off so I cannot read the rest.  It is for a '92 Ford Explorer.  I would like to get a new CD player but all I have to play are cassettes.  Old school, I know.  Most of the time it will not play.  When messing around with it, I found that when I press the volume knob in, it will play until I release my pressure.  I wish you would tell me the best way to fix it and the best way to access the area behind the volume knob.  I looked at probably 20 junkyards and pawnshops but found nothing.  I don't have a lot of money and would rather fix it myself if possible.  There are 3 wires ocming from the back of the set.  a white an red one next to each other and a black one.  The black one has a piece of the insulation abou3/4" long at the point where the metal housing is located.  Is this for grounding?  Otherwise it would seem to be a short.

Thank you.
