Re: [DIY] Drywall

I have never found that necessary, but on the otherhand I've also never had a satisfactory outcome using the new "Lite" mud either.  Some swear by it but I have stuck to the old tried and proven Gypsum mud.

I heard from someone to water down the mud for thinner coats. Thoughts?

Valleys or uneven joints will also determine how many layers you'll need and if you just want them covered or invisible. Sanding is messy, try to keep the need for it down by applying thin coats, feather it out with a wide blade and using a damp sponge. Wear a mask if you do any dry sanding. You might try a couple of techniques on scraps to see which you like best. Let it dry completely and paint so you will know what gives you the result you want. You really won't know how well you did taping till it's painted :) A textured paint can help disguise less than perfect taping.
