[DIY] Re: How to determine the BTUs on a propane cooktop

Found this:

furnace to demonstrate the comparison.
  • 100,000 BTU/hr furnace will use about 97 cubic feet of natural gas (100,000 ÷ 1,030 = 97.1) in one hour
  • 100,000 BTU/hr furnace will use about 40 cubic feet of propane (100,000 ÷ 2516 = 39.7) in one hour

So propane has OVER TWICE as many BTU/ CF; if you are having trouble, you either have the wrong jets/ bad jets, or the wrong pressure on the low pressure regulator/ s.

I have bought Coleman propane lanterns that NEW would barely light, and problem was something in the jet. and yet, a jet is so simple... something with a specific size hole in it flows XX at a certain pressure.
