Now, THIS side of the uissue. Changes...
Laws do often state, that when this or that work is done, or, the amount is $100 or over, in total, certain logical extras can be required to be updated... the theory being that you are ~already
most of the way there, and the additional work at THIS POINT is
not excessively much more money.
Maybe you already have the wall coverings/drywall down for
electrical. MAYbe you have a cheap guy and the cost is $800.
BUT the city says, ~"This work, so many sq ft, at $__ per sq ft, exceeds a standard value of 1000$." So they can make you add a
door upgrade, that is mebe $100 for the door with jamb(frame,)
and $100 to install.
NOT quoting law, but showing HOW it might work in this case.
Similar requirements do exist. "Safety Issues" do get a priority
where "required upgrades" are concerned, that would NORMALLY only apply to NEW construction.
ASK the city guys!!! ASAP!
Your guy could be right, or was told this when he went for the permit, and didn't argue on your behalf, cuz he WANTED to to be required to do the work for you.
OR - he might be in error, it being a similar situation where
he had to, but which he does not understand the nuance in THIS
case. If he was ANY good, he OUGHT to be able to explain that
EASILY to you, w/o your cluing him in as to what YOU now know,
or suspect.
Light in a walk-in shower?
Maybe! Depends.
This light is a tiny bit special. Must meet "wet-are" spec.
There will be a label on it. If so, you might want to opt for
a fan also as part of it. In THIS case, sones are a quietness
rating & worth the extra for a quiet one.
