[DIY] Urgent ? Re sod

 

I am redoing-regrading my lawn- dog poo and peed there and it has lots of holes. So first question is this;

what do we logically do with the old grass? Till it/scrape it and remove it, or just cover it ( this will kill the weed/grass?) with the inevitable soil amending that is due for the the new layer of sod or seed (i think 3 -6 " is recommended)??

Then when we have it layered with soil, do we have to roll it to avoid settling of soil to cause pits?
