Our gas log fireplace, is supposed to have a blower unit. When the firebox was installed the electrician put in an outlet for the blower.
When the installer came, he worked 6 hours and wasn't successful in installing the blower so just hooked up the logs, and took the blower unit with him. They said it was defective. Second time, same installer, he said as soon as he plugged it in the sensors blew. Company says the plug isn't grounded or there is a short in it. They don't want to attempt to install a 3rd blower till they know what's going on.
Prior to the first appt, we checked the outlet with a lamp, hair dryer etc to know it had power, as they had asked us to do. The installer also checked it with a HD extension cord and a 110 tester when he was here the first time, both worked fine. The blower unit is located under the log set so we can't get to it without unhooking the gas and removing the logs, and we're not comfortable disconnecting the gas line.
I finally talked to the electrician who did the work here and he agreed to come out this week - I don't have a problem with him cutting into the sheetrock to get to the outlet without messing with the gas line. The electrician had the installation instructions and if ordinary items work fine, why won't the blower work ? No one has said we need anything other than a 110 outlet. Any ideas? I'm at the mercy of the company and installer, it's been 2 months since it was to be installed. Our furnace sucks propane in this subzero weather trying to heat the entire house. We use the great room downstairs the majority of the day and the vents are in the ceiling, so our plan was to use the fireplace as our main heat and keep the furnace at about 60. Sure appreciate any thoughts you might have or questions to ask either the electrician or installer. They can't install a different blower as this is the only one specified for this firebox. I'm swimming in deep water here, feels like everyone is pointing fingers.
