I have 2 compressors. One is a little pancake Porter Cable that I leave in the garage. It is easily portable and just plugs into a 110V outlet. It is very noisy, but it holds air for a long time, so it doesn't pump very much. I don't expect a long life, but it does the job.
I have a larger one in the shop. It is a oil sump type compressor and runs on 220V. I couldn't live without it, but I will admit it doesn't run as much as I thought it would.
I read in a forum you should change the oil every 50 hours on a oil type compressor. I had no idea how long that would be, so I added a hour meter to mine. Over 3 years later, I'm up to 20 hours. I have a valve right at the tank so air doesn't leak out between uses.
Once you have a compressor you will find other uses for it. Air tools last a long time and are indispensable, especially if you have 10 units with pneumatic tires.
My experience tells me to advise you to get a larger compressor than you think you need. You will likely grow into it.
