Oh god, some old battery operated thing. It's probably a piece of junk. 

I thought perhaps a window frame Is a Constant and I could figure out where a stud would be. I misspoke. Not a beam, I want to find the stud.

I would say assume nothing.  You can always drive in a thin long nail to see if you hit a stud.  then you can pull it and patch the hole.

If Follow the vertical molding on the windowsill directly straight up, can I assume there would be a beam right there? I am trying to locate the beam so I could put screws in to hang some drapes. My beam finder doesn't really seem to be that accurate. Thanks.
