True, the value of this fixture is mostly in the fixture's appearance instead of the motion sensor quality. However, the fact that it says motion is best detected across path instead if head-on is typical of all motion sensors.
You can make it stay on all night by flipping the wall switch on, off, then back on in rapid succession. This will only work for the 1 night, then it will be back to normal operation the next night.
Covering the sensor window with tape would likely also block the photocell and cause it to stay on in the daytime.
If on all night and off in the day automatically is your desire, get a different fixture with a photocell built in, not motion sensor.
