Thanks, Ron.  I think that sounds good.  The tub is a fiber glass with the jets if that matters.

1/2" is WAY too much. But since you have that much of a gap, I would use grout.  You can actually color grout if you want to need to.
 
I'm not an expert on it, so if you plan to use it, make sure you find how to do it on the internet.  But hopefully someone has a solution that might be better.

We had a new bath tub installed a few years ago.  The guy who installed the slate walls left a 1/2 inch gap between the slate and the tub. I'm having a hard time getting the caulk seal to hold and not leak.  Any ideas?
