Take both hinges off. Using a chisel, remove wood as shown, 3/4" deep. Reploace with 1 x 2. The chiseled part has to allow the new wood to fit deep enough to allow for the hinges. Glue into opening. If there is solid wood behind, screw in under hinge plates. Replace the door.

When I went to close my bedroom door this afternoon, it didn't feel right,
so I checked the hinges. Top hinge was about to fall off the door frame.
Took the door off the hinges so that I could put the screws back.
