Good suggestion. I personally use white vinegar in my coffee pot. Might not be a bad idea to try hot vinegar on this crusty lime build up. Thank you

Thank you. Nice idea... just not so sure those would cut through the thick buildup... it is like a crust.

I would recommend Barkeeper's Friend or Zud.  They get most stains out, especially rust stains.
