Re: [DIY] Re: clean stainless steel

The one I used I ordered from Amazon because i couldn't find it at my local grocery.  I believe it's Finish.  It is the dishwasher *cleaner*, not dish washing tablets.

The cleaner comes in a bottle that you just tear off the paper tab and place upside down in the lower rack.  It has a wax plug that melts when the water gets hot.

It cleans out the crud in the washer, makes it smell nice again and completely cleans out all the stains/crud on the stainless steel.  It looked like new with the exception of the scratches of course.

Just keep in mind that when you use it, they recommend you put your dishwasher on the hottest setting (pots and pans) and run it through the hot dry cycle if you have one.

The Amazon order came in a pack of three bottles and the instructions recommend you use it once a month but honestly, I would think no more than once every 4-6 months is more than sufficient (I hadn't cleaned it since we bought it 10 years ago! LOL).

actually, the active ingredient in dishwasher cleaner is citric acid.  If you can find it, you can use it instead of the commercially produced brand names but I found it hard to find in granular form.  Buying it under a commercial number was just easier.
