[DIY] Washing machine drain

The new washer/dryer are being delivered tomorrow.  We wired the receptacle for the dryer, I purchased all the new hoses and cords as required by Lowes for them to install it.   Working down there this morning, (insulating the wall), I realized the pipe that was set up to handle a sink in the laundry room is just an open pipe, no cap.  If we install the washing machine and hook up the drain hose, I think the water is going to also run back out through the open pipe? Would that be correct? Do I have to go back to town to buy a cap for it before we use the washing machine? There are no threads so glue it on?  Will it have to be cut off when we get the new sink installed?
