Re: [DIY] Washing machine drain

Oh, good idea Dale, I have a rubber ball that will fit and that's much easer than driving back to town to get a cap and hopefully I will be able to use it right away.

I would suggest you stuff a rubber ball in the pipe for now or cap it.  Normally if the drain is taking water as it should there will not be a problem, if this is to be for a deep sink then any overflow will be contained by the deep sink.

I hope so Aki, let me be sure I was clear.  The washing machine is in the center of the wall, the drain is right behind it, and you're correct the drain hose will fit into it.  To the left, about 15" off the floor there is a horizontal drain pipe where eventually the sink drain will connect, continues about 4' and connects to the washing machine drain line with a Y that then goes to the main drain.  I thought when the washing machine drains,  some water will go left and out the open pipe.  I've no idea if there is a "valve" inside that prevents the water from the machine draining back into the sink.  Hmmm, would seem like it though, huh?  Otherwise what would keep it from backing up into the sink?

Every washing machine drainpipe I've ever seen is just an upright pipe that the flex hose is pushed down into.  Unless the pipe is clogged up, you'll never have the pressure needed
for the water to fly back out.  You should be fine.
