I *think* that the hot water for the dishwasher is coming from a downstairs hot water heater and not the instant hot under the sink.

If that's true, then it's even more baffling why hot water isn't coming from the hot water t-connector under the sink.

The instant hot is connected to the cold water, heats it's own little tank and just provides hot water to the dedicated outlet. It's not connected in any way to the others. We've had these for almost 40 years, along with dishwashers and never a problem, except when an installer accidentally hooked it to the hot water supply line and burnt it out.

What happens if you turn off the hot side (at the T connector) and turn on the dishwasher? Logically, you shouldn't get ANY water. If you do, then it's drawing water from somewhere else.
