Dale, that would be fun if we were younger and closer, LOL. It is a huge frustration right now but I can't fix it - not easy to find someone who will come look at it. We'll get through it, you guys have certainly put forth some interesting thoughts. Weather turning bad tomorrow - so will be interesting to see if it changes any. It's very frustrating to depend on professionals - who may or may not know what to do in a situation like this. I have found guys who probably are very competent — don't want to work on the barn. They prefer "business as usual" type jobs. And, the guys who did the job guarantee it — if it's not right they'll fix it till it is. However - they say their work was done right - there is hot water at the connection - so it must be the fault of the dishwasher. I may take the line off completely and see how much cold water it will hold - or if there is anything in the line - at least I'll know that for myself.
My point of use hot water heater is installed in series with the hot water line so the only cold water it ever sees if that which laid in the line and cooled off since the last hot water usage. It is totally nonproductive to connect any secondary source of hot water to the cold water line. Your statement makes no logic as I am reading it. feeding hot or warm water to a point of use heater will not cause it to burn out since its sole design is to heat water. It is not uncommon to connect large hot water tanks in series to reduce losses and to also increase storage volumes. I wish you lived closer, I would drive over in a heart beat to try and assist you. I just do not want to see your dream turned into you most recent nightmare because you have been made dependent on others with business titles and limited understanding and/or skill levels.
You are correct, for some reason the hot and cold were reversed in both the kitchen and bathroom. The hot water for the DW comes from the hot water heater downstairs.
The instant hot is connected to the cold water, heats it's own little tank and just provides hot water to the dedicated outlet. It's not connected in any way to the others. We've had these for almost 40 years, along with dishwashers and never a problem, except when an installer accidentally hooked it to the hot water supply line and burnt it out.Yes, if we turn it off, we get no waterOn Jan 6, 2016, at 9:44 AM, Aki 01dyna@gmail.com [DoIt_Yourself] <DoIt_Yourself@yahoogroups.com> wrote:Hot water is usually on the LEFT side, not the right which is odd in your setup. So the instant hot which draws cold water from the cold water side..ok get that. How does that hot water then get to the hot side? Is the hot waterfor the DW coming from a hot water heater and not instant hot? What happens if you turn off the hot side (at the T connector) and turn on the dishwasher? Logically, you shouldn't get ANY water. If you do, then it's drawing water from somewhere else.
