[DIY] Re: Picture Framing

If it was framed to be acid free most of the tapes and glues used are water based. the tapes often are gummed and dry and you have to wet them before they are applied. You may be able to moisten the tape and restick it in place. If not light moisture or steam may loosen it. Archival materials are available at Scrapbook stores and Art Supply stores. Large hobby stores like Hobby Lobby and Micheals also often have them.

> I have a beautiful picture/painting/print that was given to me when a friend was cleaning out her house. I don't know that it has any significant value, but it's really beautiful to me & I want to hang it & enjoy it. The backing is in good shape except for the tape & it's wanting to come off. I'd like to replace the tape, but am afraid to pull off the old to replace w/new. I've never done much framing & never purchased any tape like this & don't even know what it's called. Does it need to be acid-free? Is there an adhesive on it, or do you have to buy the proper adhesive? If so, what kind? It looks like you could just take brown paper & accomplish the same thing (with the right adhesive), but I don't want to mess this picture up or cause it to deteriorate. Any suggestions on touching up the back of this framed picture would be most helpful. Thanks.
