[DIY] New topic - foam insulation [1 Attachment]

Something different :)  You may remember I mentioned earlier about using the spray foam to fill the cracks on the outside wall of the new laundry room.  I wasn't sure it would work but it actually worked very good.  Had some trial and error, I used the Big Gap filler - should have used the Crack filler.  It comes out fast and continues to come out fast after you release the trigger.  I actually had better luck using a putty knife and, for tight spots, I sprayed it directly on the knife and applied it to the crack. You have to learn when it is spreadable vs when it's reached the elastic stage and pulls off.  I was down a bit ago and can see no daylight on any of those spaces.  I debated adding a second layer but decided against it.  Next step is to cut the styrofoam insulation panels and fit them between the studs and use the foam around all the edges, cover that with fiberglass batt and then sheetrock.  I'm only using the styrofoam on the outside wall, which is 8' so it doesn't add much to the cost, but if this works good I might look at doing something similar in the rest of the barn using the 3" styrofoam.  However those are $33 for a 4x8 sheet —— the cost might be similar to the blown in foam kits which someone mentioned earlier.  Dow makes one too, homeowner kits, didn't check the prices.

This would be a great, and inexpensive solution, for a small outbuilding
