[DIY] Retaining Wall Blocks

I obtained some free retaining wall blocks from CraigsList. Please see the pictures in this album.

The blocks are the ones without an edge. They just have 2 holes in them on the underneath side of the leading edge. Since they don't have an edge to keep them from moving, how are these used? If the 2 holes were on the backside of the block, I could fashion some dowels or PVC pipe to keep them in place, but since they are on the curved front side, this will not work. They are 18" long and 11" deep. Each weighs about 40lbs, but I don't think that's enough weight to keep it in place after backfilling.

Thanks for any tips or suggestions,
John
