I agree. However, you can get 54" long tubs for as little as $200.
One source is from a mobile home supply store.
Another way is to build your own with ceramic wall/floor tile. Just be sure to line the wall/floor with roll shower pan material and use concrete mud backing instead of cement board and adhesive. Go at it like doing a regular shower except put high walls.
