Re: [DIY] Pegasus pop-up drain plug now disconnected and doesn't pop up

it sounds like the small screw on "loop" that attaches to the end of the drain plug has fallen off (most likely now
sitting at the bottom of the gooseneck of your drainpipe).

You can buy a replacement plug at Home Depot for very cheap.  The rod on the gooseneck pipe slips through
the screw on loop and holds it on place.  When you pull up on the plug rod between your hot and cold water
faucet handles, it pulls down the drain plug (or conversely, lifts it up to drain the water in the sink).

Very simple to replace.  The loop screws on and has a lock nut to hold it in place and is adjustable so that the
drain plug will seat securely to plug the drain hole.  If the nut loosens up (which yours probably did), it can eventually
unscrew itself and the loop falls off...which it sounds like yours did.  When that happens, the rod through the
gooseneck has nothing to hold onto the drain plug and the drain plug will just fall flush the the rain hole (which can
be a challenge to lift up and take out).

Most goose necks have a small plug at the bottom of the neck that you can unscrew and if the loop and lock nut
fell off, it's likely it's there and removing the small plug will retrieve it and  you can reattach the loop and lock nut
back to the drain plug rod and slip the straight rod that runs through the gooseneck and you're back in business.

Looking at the very bottom of the stem it looks as though there had been some sort of screw to connect it to the under-sink mechanism. Is there any way to get this thing reconnected so it works without calling in a plumber? I'm 70 and I do not believe this has *ever* happened to any other sink in the various places I have called home over the years. Right now I've got a large paper clip keeping the chrome part lifted a bit off the sink.
