I am not a mechanic, but here are a couple of comments.  Always use 50/50 mixture of antifreeze even in the summer.  It is a rust inhibitor as well.
It also raises the boiling point of the solution.  Cars run @ 180+ degrees normally.  Have you checked the fan for proper operation?  Not sure about your car, but many have a thermal clutch or may be an electric fan with a thermostatic control.
