[DIY] Floor paint

This is one of those FYI stories:

We have a rental that had hardwood floors upstairs and, when we bought it, were already painted, along with the stairs going up.  Since the painting was not in good shape, we decided to paint it again.

Unfortunately, we got floor paint from Lowes.  As soon as it dried and was being stepped on, it started flaking off because of the scuffling.  We went to an official paint store and they said use an oil based polyurethane paint, which we bought - it's the same type of paint that was used in a different building that we bought 7 years ago and we've no problems with it.  It's more expensive and takes longer to dry than the one we used before, but if it works half as well as it did in the other building, it's well worth it.

Lowes does not carry this type of paint and my guess is that Home Depot doesn't either.  So if you need a special paint, go to the professional paint store, not a home store.
