[DIY] RE: build a wood door with hand tools

"build a door" covers a lot of territory.

i built one for a basement hidey hole out of 2x6 (yes heavy)

picked thru "a lot of 2x6 pine" before i got the ones i wanted.

cut a groove with a skil saw on the edges for a homemade biscut

and edge glued everything.  then used a good sharp plane, smoothed,

sanded (belt sander), notched for hinges.  used a bar type closer not a doorknob.

i suppose you could use 3/4" plywood and brace the edges with 1x pine
look at pics of old english pubs or even old historical farm homes and you

will get plenty ideas.  the hard part is getting the straight wood and keeping it from warping before you edge glue.  most of the wood stores (hd,mendards, lowes etc) don't like you culling thru all their wood to get good straight ones. i always go at first open so that they tend to leave me alone.

good luck

I have a chop saw, a jigsaw and hand tools. I would like to build a simple functional solid wood door.

Any suggestions as to how to do this.
