Re: [DIY] Burned out Circular Saw

You can find parts for about any power tool you might have ever owned at this site.

Typically wire is wrapped around iron core to make the electromagnets
that power the motor, exactly details depends on type of motor.
To increase the power of the electromagnets, more wire wrapping, thin
insulation, which is typically a layer of varnish on each wire.
That smoke coming out is probably some of varnish burning off, shorting
out some of the windings, and making a weaker electromagnet.

General theory of "electronics are smoke powered, and when the smoke escapes,
they stop working" (humor) can be found on the internet.

For large industrial motors, with valuable bearings and heavy duty rotors and
housings, people do get the rotors re-wound.  For harbor freight level,
its much harder to dissemble and reassemble, since many of these cheaper
products are plastic cases sonic welded together.

If it was something like a skilssaw 77 worm drive handed down from your
dad, I might suggest seeing if you can find a shop that does
motor repair, otherwise, you'll probably just spend less on a new
saw, closer to what you now want/need in a circular saw having used
one for awhile.

I'm curious if there is any sort of troubleshooting or fix that I can take on for it.  If not fixable, I'm also curious if it's safe to continue using it until it flat out gives up.  I don't use it very much but would rather fix it as oppose to chunking and re-buying....but not sure if it's worth whatever hassle it would take to get it back up to speed, if even possible.
