Re: [DIY] blocked sewer line in basement

nadj suggested renting a power auger.  That is a good idea in that the diameter of the line is probably thicker (stiffer and less prone to wrapping) then your drill auger and will give you better odds of getting through the clog.

With that said, if you can afford it, you may want to invest in a manual auger.  It will probably look like the type that you rent but without gas or electric power.  You just hand crank/feed it.  It comes with different sets of bits that you add onto the end of the line.  Root cutting bits and such.  It's something that you may not need to use very many times but is nice to have on hand if you ever need it.  Also, you won't be limited by rental hour restrictions.

The powered ones are pretty expensive.  A less expensive version looks something like this...

Can anyone suggest options. My main sewer is backing up. Trying to fix it myself as I have had such poor service from various plumbing companies both at homes I own and at work where I am responsible for the building. Tried salt, hot water, root killer, hot water, roto rooter liquid industrial strength ( this worked at work after 3 different line cleaners did not so I had great hopes for home.) I then bought a cobra hand auger which attaches to the drill. Can't fit on drill, Hand augered and it went down pretty far once but now just wraps around itself and goes no where.

Thanks for any help.
