It all depends on how much heat you need and what your heater choice was going to be long term.
If all you need is to warm your fingers up every now and then.... you can run a very heavy extension
cord ( ie: ten guage ) to a 1500 watt 110 v room heater on a 12 ga 20amp circuit.
Maybe if you were thinking of a wall mounted direct vent natural gas heater for the long term and you have already run the gas line, you could go ahead and hook that up.
The direct vent heaters seen all the fumes and CO2 up the chimney and is safest but you also send
a lot of heat up the chimney.
If only for temporary use or short term use to get heat to work in,
you can use the vent free natural gas heaters.... Exactly the same thing as lighting the burners
on a gas stove. 100 percent of fuel is converted to heat. But also burns up oxygen over time
and replaces with CO2.
For daytime temporary work use there are several kinds of kerosene heaters that can put out a ton
of heat but they cannot be a long term solution.
If you are totally in a wide open breezy barn, I suggest making a temporary room to hold the heat in
by framing a box with 2x4s and stapling visqueen or plastic painters drop cloth to serve as the walls.
Give us more details about your project.....
