Skylights?

We get plenty of light when the sun is out, but these last few rainy, gray days, it's depressing, feels like we are in a cave. We've talked about replacing the windows with as large as we can put in, unfortunately because of the lower roofline, they can only come down maybe 6" Surely there is a way to cut into the roofline so we could put regular windows in? They would have to come down at least 15+" to make a difference.Anyone have any suggestions as to how this can be done? Something like basement wells but that would continue out? The current windows are about 48".
