[DIY] Re: blocked sewer line in basement

Hi Jamie,
As none of the things you mention seem to have helped, the next move I would make is to push a camera through & see what the problem is. From your comments I take it that you are on city sewer, and the blockage is between the cleanout at your house and the sewer main.. How long is the run to the street? Any recent construction activity?Check your local rental places & see if they have a camera unit to rent.

As much as I like to do things myself, this is something I usually hire out, as the equipment is pricey & you can usually get this done by a drain cleaner guy for about the price of the camera rental. Once you know what the problem is, you can figure out how to fix it.

Can anyone suggest options. My main sewer is backing up. Trying to fix it myself as I have had such poor service from various plumbing companies both at homes I own and at work where I am responsible for the building. Tried salt, hot water, root killer, hot water, roto rooter liquid industrial strength ( this worked at work after 3 different line cleaners did not so I had great hopes for home.) I then bought a cobra hand auger which attaches to the drill. Can't fit on drill, Hand augered and it went down pretty far once but now just wraps around itself and goes no where.

Thanks for any help.

Jamie
