In 2008 I pulled up the ugly orange mix carpet in our house, painted the subfloor and put down several throw rugs. After a lot of posting and questioning on this yahoo group, I decided I wanted real wood, extra wide planking.
I could not locate anyone or any lumber yard that offered what I wanted. Last fall I accidently came across another home owner who had wide planking. To make this even better, the supplier lived about 1 1/2 hours from me. They disassembled old barns. I choose to have the boards planed and sanded. They kindly tongue and grooved the boards for us.
We put the 10 inch planks down on 3 rooms. We are slowly replacing doors and trims.
The 2nd picture shows the boards down on the living room floor before the sanding and finish was applied. The 3rd picture shows the living room floor after the finish was applied.
Also in the 2nd picture is a sliding door I made from 2 15 panel damaged doors I bought at Menards. We used a farm sliding door rail bought at Farm and Fleet which we painted Hammered Copper. This door saves us a lot of propane during the winter when we close off the living room when not using it. It also keeps part of the house cooler in summer when we close it.
