[DIY] Re: Mice and voles

On this subject, curiously I was standing out admiring my new side lot w/ new sod and fence, when a dark creature came from my neighbors yard, under the gap in the new fence, and into my now usable (previous rock and weeds- undefined nor usable) Side lot. It proceeded behind the a/c unit and from there I lost him and assumed he went into an unknown crevice as Im trying to diligently seal up this old house. I can only imagine that this new lawn must be a convenience for him or that hes always traveled this route and I never knew as I didnt use it. So then later or the next day, Im again standing a little bit away from previous position when I see another dark creature surreptitiously appear from nowhere out of the short retained soil bed (adjacent to aforementioned sod) down into the lawn ground and disappears. As I followed I discovered a substantially formed hole. And there he was peering out. Within minutes he courageously jettisons up and miraculously in disappears between 2 retaining blocks, which had been there so long they should seem glued together. At this point, Ive determined he didnt go above the soil bed into another hole, so considering the hole just below, I realize he really knows his territory and squeezed thru the wall blocks just under the plastic (uses as weed barrier few inched from top) and deep into his hidden kingdom.

At this point, while I know I have mouse issues, Im convinced these are the traits of a mole/vole and I will have to remove him before he destroys my side/ backyard sod. While hubby did buy a trap he hasnt implemented it so Im feeling more eagerly inclined to do the bucket method to deal with him. I understand that mice need a food source and may be traveling about the exterior and returning inside so this may be *cross my fingers* a two-fer opportunity to rid of these vagrants before winter. While I used to use the poisons in the past, Im less inclined with a child in the house and the gross factor. Any further insight appreciated.
