Hey Dale,
The faucet has its own battery pack for power, and does NOT work without the batteries installed once the electrical connections have been made. I wanted to test it for watertight connection prior to installing the batteries, but it was a no go. Fortunately, the installation was so easy that all of the connections turned out to be watertight.
In addition, there is a bypass feature that allows for use of the faucet in "manual mode". Bypass just involves disconnecting the simple electrical wire connections. I imagine I will need the bypass feature when the batteries wear out. Since the faucet is so new, I really have no idea how long the batteries will last, or how often I will have to be replacing them.
