Re: [DIY] Craftsman vs. Chamberlan

That is going to happen.  I am going to measure the volts at the opener connection.  Since I still have the old one, I can see if that is different.  The craftsman "eyes" are not lit when I plug in the opener so nothing is going to happen until I do some rain dance.

I think the newer models have gone digital and I feel you would have had the same problem with the Craftsman.  Can you just splice into the existing wires?

I have always had Craftsman garage door openers at this location but this time when the opener fried, I found that the Chamberlain was much cheaper.

BUT it appears that the beams sent across the bottom of the door opening are not interchangeable.  When I was much younger, I put in the first sending units and the wires are now tucked behind a lot of finish work.

The Chamberlain "lights" look exactly the same and use the same wire colors.  But the only way to make the door work is to wire up the Chamberlans .

Has anybody else run into this or am I a lighthouse keeper?

I wish I had known this was going to happen, I would have bought another Craftsman.
