So when you cut with this equipment, doesn't the blade turn backwards to a table saw? It looks to me like you are feeding the wood in the wrong direction.

Yes you pull the saw toward you, however I would not recommend using it to rip parallel to the fence as they have a nasty habit of kicking back.
Cross cutting is quite safe as long as you don't force the cut and keep a sharp blade.

All of the rotation arrows line up but this still seems very wrong.
