Re: [DIY] Re: Water Filters, Microbes and Bacteria

Their bottled water is probably filtered through an RO system but I would bet their ice is just plain tap water.  It could also depend how well the water supplier washes and sterilizes their jugs.  Most are pretty careful because there is a very good profit margin in bottled water.  I met a Western Kansas farmer about 20 years ago who was on the verge of loosing everything he had until he setup to market bottled water and rent out the coolers.  He delivered to homes and businesses in Garden City and Dodge city which are about 60 miles apart as well as a number of homes and business in the area.  He told me that he had realized a complete return on his original investment in less than 2 years and that by buying the coolers in 100 unit lots they would payout on rent in 6 months.  His water came from one of his irrigation wells, and the whole setup was in a former equipment shed that have been given a concrete floor, a layer of paneling and a coat of paint with lots of room left over for expansion.  You might be surprised at how many private homes get bottled water delivered every week or two.  His bottles were all machine washed and sterilized just before being automatically filled.  He only dealt in the 5 gallon bottles.

Glad you brought this up, I hadn't thought of that fellow in years.

Where I work the water was "Deemed unsafe to drink". I have been there 17 yrs and this was so when I first went there. I carry a drink thermo with me which only gets filled up with their bottled water and shipped in ice. Every once in awhile I have to clean the dirt (which you can see floating around in the water)out. I try to bleach wash it each weekend (Doesn't always happen). So where does the dirt come from? The water or the ice? And Yes, The large bottles of water do have dates on them.
Just thinkin!
