[DIY] Re: Coca-Cola uses

It certainly IS different, and I think the ubiquitous use of HFCS has destroyed the taste of a lot of other things, like desserts, as well.

This past Sunday we had a post Easter Egg Hunt, preceded by Sunday afternoon dinner. Dessert was a French Silk Pie from a local pie shop. Now, you can't go wrong with a French Silk Pie, but I did comment out loud that those pies are not what they used to be. I assume it's because of corn syrup. I think the rich and flavorful ingredients have been eliminated in favor of the sweetness of the corn syrup. A little gelatin mixed in to fluff it all up results in the same look/different taste.

The pie was cut into nine slices, so none of the pieces were huge. I had two bites, then gave the rest to my brother and his ten year old son to share. Just way too sweet sweet for me, without any of the satisfying chocolate smoothness. The pie looked beautiful, but the taste has been destroyed. Next time I want that flavor, I'll make my own.

And Joy, yes, of course the fatty liver is from the corn syrup. So much sugar dumped into the body for the liver to have to counteract. Nothing wrong with the occasional bottle of pop, but it has become a destructive way of life for so many people. I don't see why anyone would waste so many of their daily calories on something to drink when there is so much good food available. Unless calories don't matter to you, but they do to me.

That would require attention and getting up-at-arms and going to the trouble of looking all that up...

I did notice that it said it was sweetened with real sugar, but for awhile, I thought maybe it tasted so much better just because it was in a glass bottle. So I would drink an occasional soda when I found one in a glass bottle, but it just didn't taste very good.
